DMA is dedicated to advancing and protecting data-driven marketers in Washington, across the States and around the globe. Every aspect of your organization is affected by public policy.  As you focus on core business functions, DMA’s Government Affairs team is constantly focused on the wide range of policy and political issues that affect the data-driven marketing community.

What's at Stake: the Issues

DMA believes that self-regulatory measures are preferable to governmental mandates. Self-regulatory programs are more readily adaptable to evolving technologies, shifting consumer preferences and changing economic and social conditions. They encourage widespread use of sound business practices, building consumer trust while allowing businesses to quickly adjust their practices to best meet the needs of their customers.

DMA opposes burdensome and unrepresentative taxes and administrative collection requirements on remote sellers. DMA works in both Congress and the States on these issues.

Whenever marketers or their suppliers possess consumer data, they must take reasonable steps to secure that data and prevent misuse of it.  Data security applies to on-line and off-line data storage. It requires employees with access to the data to be constantly trained and supervised.

Postal Reform

Data Security

The United States Postal Service (USPS) is an integral part of this country; however, they continue to lose $25 million per day, and Congress has failed to enact any postal reform legislation. The USPS is in crisis and DMA urges Congress to take responsible and comprehensive reform to return the USPS back to solvency.

Nonprofit

The DMA and DMA Nonprofit Federation protect & defend nonprofit fundraising across all marketing channels to advance responsible data-driven fundraising. Our legislative and regulatory focus continue to preserve charitable giving incentives, support postal reform and review fundraising regulations impacting nonprofit organizations and those working on their behalf.
